Revisiting Peter Davison’s era of ‘Doctor Who’

The Fifth Doctor works well in historical settings

Davison was used to period pieces, after he had risen to fame in ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, which was set in the 1930s onwards. Despite his lavish costume, he blends in well in ‘Black Orchid’, even carrying off a Harlequin fancy dress outfit. ‘The Visitation’, set in 1666, and ‘The King’s Demons’, set in 1215, also show the Fifth Doctor’s ability to blend successfully in to any period. Although chronologically later on, this would not always be the case with future Doctors, as historical settings became jarring.
