Demon Records celebrates the era of the Fifth Doctor, played by Peter Davison, in a new deluxe 4 CD box set, out on 25th September 2026. Fans of classic ‘Doctor Who' fondly recall Davison's time on the show in the mid-1980s. His youthful and energetic portrayal, which nevertheless remained wise and thoughtful, was certainly a departure for ‘Doctor Who'. In many ways, Davison's take on the part paved the way for the younger Doctors of more recent years.
In ‘Doctor Who – The Peter Davison Collection', the actor narrates two classic ‘Doctor Who' Target novelisations by former series script editor Terrance Dicks, alongside a range of rare and archive bonus audio material.
The stories of the Fifth Doctor's era features companions such as Tegan Jovanka, Nyssa, Adric, and Turlough. The era is remembered for leaning more heavily into science-fiction themes and away from the humour and campery that had been the hallmark of the Tom Baker years.
‘Kinda', which was broadcast as part of Davison's first season as the Doctor in 1982, is notable for its surreal, philosophical tone, written as it was by a Buddhist. It introduced the Mara, a malevolent psychic entity that preys on the subconscious. Meanwhile, ‘Warriors of the Deep' from his third and final season is a Cold War-inspired base under siege story. It brought together two returning classic monsters—the Silurians and the Sea Devils—in a tense narrative about conflict escalation and the danger of humanity’s militarism.
Across the collection’s four discs, Davison revisits these stories in audiobook form:
- CD 1: Doctor Who: Kinda (Parts One & Two) plus The Ed Stewart Show extract
- CD 2: Doctor Who: Kinda (Parts Three & Four) plus 30 Years extract
- CD 3: Doctor Who: Warriors of the Deep (Parts One & Two) plus View from the Boundary extract
- CD 4: Doctor Who: Warriors of the Deep (Parts Three & Four) plus Graham Norton extract
The box set features appearances and interview material from during and after his time on the show. This includes his memorable 1983 Longleat House convention event appearance alongside Janet Fielding and then-producer John Nathan-Turner. The event became a landmark gathering for fans during the show’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
Presented with a full-colour booklet featuring cast details, credits, and track listings, the set is a fine tribute to the Fifth Doctor’s enduring appeal and legion of admirers. Accompanied by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop’s iconic theme music, it revisits a period often praised for its emotional depth, strong ensemble storytelling, and Davison’s distinctly youthful, compassionate interpretation of the Doctor.
