3. Maureen Evans (‘Scream 2’)
I remember watching ‘Scream 2’ in the cinema and being terrified when Maureen Evans (Jada Pinkett-Smith) was slaughtered onscreen while in a cinema. The opening of ‘Scream 2’, Maureen and her boyfriend Phil Stevens (Omar Epps) are in a packed screening of ‘Stab’, the film based on ‘The Woodsboro Murders’ by Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), when Phil goes to the toilet and is murdered. Unbeknownst to Maureen, the person who returns to the seat next to her wearing a Ghostface mask isn’t her boyfriend, it’s the killer. Before long she’s stabbed in the stomach and dies at the front of the cinema screen, while the audience believes they are watching a prank. Brutal.
