The seven ‘Doctor Who’ stories to enjoy at Christmas

‘Timelash’ (1985)

Although ‘Revelation of the Daleks’ had the snowy landscape in its favour, we’ve ultimately gone with Timelash as our choice for the Sixth Doctor, with the same logic we applied to ‘The Horns of Nimon’. The last time the Menagerie watched this Colin Baker story together, we couldn’t stop laughing. But then the Crowden’s home-brew was flowing as we reached the wee small hours of the evening. From the first Malin accidentally pulling off bits of the set in the scene when he shows Mykros the business with the amulets, to Blake’s 7 legend Paul Darrow’s outrageously camp performance as Tekker, ‘Timelash’ is pure, unadulterated panto. The props and sets are even decorated with tinsel. It’s also, inescapably, utter dross. So enjoy it whilst making merry, as let’s be honest, you’ll never want to watch it alone on a damp Monday in February!
