Those of us who remember Sylvester McCoy’s first season airing may associate this one with Christmas as it was first broadcast in December, during Advent. It is set on Iceworld, and features an abundance of the Seventh Doctor pretending to slip on BBC prop department polystyrene ‘ice’. The storyline, though outrageously operatic, is in its essence a morality piece that would be repeated a few years later in ‘Battlefield’. Everyone likes a bit of camp at Christmastime, and Bonnie Langford and Sophie Aldred sharing screen time together provides that in abundance.

We hope you agree our Doctor Who selections are the right picks for Yuletide. A very Merry Christmas to all of you at home! Let’s face it, where else are you allowed to go this year? Check out podcast Doctor Who: The Complete Menagerie (Almost) on iTunes, and follow us on Twitter @DWMenagerie.
