The seventh episode of The Walking Dead season 9 set things in motion for the mid-season finale.

If you’re not up to date with The Walking Dead and like to avoid spoilers we suggest you don’t read any further.

Carol (Melissa McBride) took Henry (Matt Lintz) to visit Daryl (Norman Reedus). She wanted Daryl to go to Hilltop with them to keep an eye on Henry. Initially he refused but Carol found a way to change his mind.

It was revealed that Maggie had left Hilltop and that Jesus (Tom Payne) was now their elected leader. The community was thriving and Jesus was sneaking out to meet Aaron (Ross Marquand) to improve relations with Alexandria and to teach him martial arts. The pair saw a flare fired by Rosita (Christian Serratos) and rescued her back to Hilltop.

Elsewhere in the episode, Michonne (Danai Gurira) DJ (Matt Mangum) and Siddiq (Avi Nash) accompanied Magna (Nadia Hilker), Luke (Dan Fogler), Connie (Lauren Ridloff), Kelly (Angel Theory) and Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura) to Hilltop. Siddiq spilled the beans to Michonne that Maggie had left to go and help Georgie.

At the end of the episode, Jesus, Aaron and Daryl led a rescue mission to go and find Eugene. It looks like they are going to have their first proper encounter with The Whisperers!

The next episode is Evolution. A small rescue mission braves a dangerous herd in their hunt for a missing comrade, only to discover a surprising threat that could doom them all.
