Blindspot 2×03 Hero Fears Imminent Rot preview

On the latest episode of Blindspot, Jane (Jaimie Alexander) tried to settle into her double agent role with the FBI team and her Sandstorm family. Meanwhile everyone seemed to have something going on and there was almost too much happening to keep up.

The episode began with a flashback to the battlefield scene shown on Mayfair’s flash drive last week. We learnt that it was taken during a mission in Afghanistan in 2013 where Jane had been part of Orion.

Orion was a secret team used for illegal ops by the CIA. Their aim during that mission seemed to be for Orion to be wiped out but Jane survived. Jane was helped in recovering the memory by Shepherd (Michelle Hurd) who showed her a war memorial for the Orion team.

Jane was sent back to the FBI with a mission to get them to investigate a particular tattoo. Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) and his team were reluctant to work with her but had no choice. Patterson (Ashley Johnson) decoded the tattoo which led them to a case involving the Juarez cartel.

Part of the tattoo featured bullets that were used to shoot up a wedding in Mexico City. Tracing those bullets led to the DEA’s gun waltzing program where weapons are sold to the black market and then tracked in order to catch the criminals who buy them. The current setup was to involve a large cache of weapons that included Stinger missiles.

More investigation led them to an imminent attack to bring down a passenger plane carrying Mexican politicians. Seemingly minutes later Weller and the team had tracked down the culprits and managed to interrupt the attack. As they took out three of the Stinger missiles a fourth was fired at a plane. Fortunately Jane and Weller were there just in time to steer it into the water.

Elsewhere in the episode Reade (Rob Brown) pursued the case against Coach Jones who had sexually abused boys. He tried to get an old friend called Freddy to testify but was told the case wasn’t strong enough. Freddy revealed that Reade may have been abused as well.

Dr. Borden asked Patterson out to dinner and she accepted. Could a romance be on the cards? He also interviewed both Weller and Jane. He noticed they were both feeling alone and suggested they could help each other. Later we saw that NSA agent Nas Kamal (Archie Panjabi) was listening in on the session recordings, could she be Sandstorm’s person on the inside?

Weller also received a visit from his ex Allie (Trieste Kelly Dunn). She revealed that she was pregnant and was happy for Weller to be involved with the child should he wish.

At the end of the episode Jane revisited the war memorial and was injected in her neck from behind by Roman. Presumably he plans to kidnap her to keep her safe.

The next episode is Hero Fears Imminent Rot and here’s the official synopsis:

Weller and the team race to stop a spree of bombings in New York, while Jane is tasked with a mission to test her loyalty.
