2. ‘The Crime of Father Amaro’ (2002)
For me, ‘The Crime of Father Amaro’ or ‘El Crimen Del Padre Amaro’ is one of Bernal’s most under-rated films. It was controversial upon its release due to how it depicted a Roman Catholic priest, played by Bernal, who struggles with with the conflict between his calling and his sexual desires when he meets a 16-year-old girl. It’s a compelling film with a strong central performance from Bernal.
