The season premiere of Ray Donovan season 6 saw Ray (Liev Schreiber) adjusting to life in New York.

If you’re not up to date with Ray Donovan and like to avoid spoilers we suggest you don’t read any further.

At the start of the episode, Ray was rescued by on-duty Staten Island cop, Sean “Mac” McGrath (Domenick Lombardozzi). Mac was making an arrest when he witnessed Ray jump into the East River. His quick thinking saved Ray but a confused Ray assaulted him and wound up in a police cell.

After Sam Winslow (Susan Sarandon) bailed Ray out, he ran into Mac and the pair became friends. A small time jump later and Ray had decided to stay with Mac in New York instead of heading back home to LA. Winslow needed Ray to help Anita Novak, her NYC mayoral candidate and Ray needed Winslow to pull some strings to help Mac.

Elsewhere, Mickey (Jon Voight) was still in prison and wasn’t happy to hear about the film based on his script getting made without him. He worked on a plan to get out which involved a bed pan, lots of tobacco and water. After mixing the ingredients he exercised until he had a heart attack.

At the end of the episode, Ray received a call from Novak to help with a problem. She’d ended up killing the man who was blackmailing her.
