Child’s Play reboot unveils new Chucky… and fans are not happy

The Child’s Play reboot has been rumoured for quite a while now but the project is gathering momentum as MGM and Orion Pictures have released a teaser image showing Chucky.

While not looking a million miles away from the original Chucky doll, the reboot will do away with the doll being possessed by the spirit of serial killer Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif). Instead Chucky will be programmed to be violent and he’ll be a Buddy Doll rather than a Good Guy.

The reboot will star Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) as Karen Barclay, Gabriel Bateman (Outcast) as Andy Barclay and Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) as Detective Mike Norris. The film will be directed by Lars Klevberg and written by Tyler Burton Smith.

It’s worth noting that Don Mancini, the original creator of Child’s Play, has no involvement in the reboot. In fact, when asked about it on Twitter he sent out the following tweet:

Mancini was asked to be an executive producer on the reboot but declined as he’s still making Chucky films (Cult of Chucky was released in 2017 to rave reviews) and he’s working on a TV series based on the franchise along with more films.

He’s not the only person not happy with the reboot news and new Chucky reveal. Fans took to Twitter in their droves to express their feelings. See a few tweets below…

With the reboot now in production, you can expect it to arrive at some point in 2019 (our guess would be Halloween). Do you think Child’s Play should be remade? Vote in our poll…
