Nashville-based Americana musician Will Hoge has announced the release of his latest album, My American Dream.
The record is due out on 6th October via EDLO/Thirty Tigers and has a strong rock and roll influence. It features eight original songs which look at the current political and social situation in America, including border policing, corruption, poverty, education and gun control.
“Those things kept me up at night — and this record was less expensive than therapy,” Hoge says, laughing. “Silence couldn’t be a part of my deal anymore.”
Hoge adds: “I don’t want to write songs telling people how they should feel. If anything, maybe there’s a 16- or 17-year-old kid in the small-town South who has rumblings of these feelings but doesn’t have anybody in his little community to go, ‘Hey man, think about it like this for a second. Here’s another group of people’s perspectives’.”
Alongside the album announcement, Hoge will also be touring the UK this December as support for his Thirty Tigers labelmates Lucero. The series of five dates kicks off in Glsasgow before visiting Manchester, London, Bristol and Brighton. Hoge will also return to the UK with his band in 2019 for further live dates.
My American Dream is available to pre-order now. Fans who do so will instantly receive two tracks – the searing, urgent opener Gilded Walls, and Thoughts & Prayers, the first song Hoge wrote for the project which was inspired by politicians’ inept response to school shootings. Hoge has also released a video for Thoughts & Prayers, which highlights a series of shocking US gun crime statistics alongside hollow tweets in response from political figures as the fiery, acoustic song plays.
Hoge is joined on the album by his new band, the first permanent lineup to play with him in several years. The band includes Thom Donavan on lead guitar, Chris Griffiths on bass and Allen Jones on drums.
The track listing for My American Dream is:
1. Gilded Walls
2. Stupid Kids
3. Still A Southern Man
4. Oh Mr. Barnum
5. Thoughts & Prayers
6. My American Dream
7. The Illegal Line
