James Van Der Beek stars in new Sky 1 comedy Carters Get Rich

James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek) will star in new comedy series Carters Get Rich, which arrives on Sky 1 on Friday 31st March 2017.

The Hollywood actor stars alongside Kerry Godliman (Our Girl, Derek), Rhashan Stone (Apple Tree Yard, Agatha Raisin), John Finnemore (That Mitchell and Webb Look) and newcomers Rio Chambers and Rhianna Merralls.

Carters Get Rich is described as an ‘hilarious rags-to-riches story follows the antics of the Carter family who find themselves overnight millionaires.’

Tony Carter (Stone) is an ordinary working class dad. He drives a ‘Bell A Bus’ for OAPs, and he’s happy with his life and his simple existence. When his 11 year-old son Harry (Chambers) creates a social networking app Honc, it is supposed to be a fun way to speak to girls at school, but things take a slightly different turn after it catches the eye of US billionaire Trent Zebrisky (Van Der Beek).

When he buys the app for millions of pounds, the Carter familyā€™s lives are turned upside down as they try to adapt to their new found fame and fortune. To his delight, Harry suddenly finds himself the most popular kid in school, whilst his impulsive mum Liz (Godliman) and impressionable sister Ellie (Merralls) recklessly embrace their millionaire lifestyle. Meanwhile, dad Tony is the voice of reason, and desperate that success doesnā€™t go to his familyā€™s head, he fights to maintain some sense of normality. But will his excitable family listen to him, or has the money changed them forever?

Carters Get Rich arrives on Sky 1 on Friday 31st March 2017 at 8pm and will run for six episodes.
