NBC cancels Hannibal

Hannibal has been cancelled by NBC it has been confirmed.

After only airing 3 of its 13 season 3 episodes, the critically-acclaimed but low-rated series will end after its current season. In the UK the show is only two episodes into its new season on Sky Living HD.

In a statement producer and show developer Bryan Fuller said, “NBC has allowed us to craft a television series that no other broadcast network would have dared, and kept us on the air for three seasons despite Cancellation Bear Chow ratings and images that would have shredded the eyeballs of lesser Standards & Practices enforcers.”

NBC also issued a statement about the show’s cancellation saying, ā€œWe have been tremendously proud of Hannibal over its three seasons. Bryan and his team of writers and producers, as well as our incredible actors, have brought a visual palette of storytelling that has been second to none in all of television ā€” broadcast or cable. We thank Gaumont and everyone involved in the show for their tireless efforts that have made Hannibal an incredible experience for audiences around the world.ā€

Since its debut Hannibal has struggled in the rating and the current season has hit new lows for the show. Despite the wide spread critical acclaim and the cult following for the show, it never managed to capture a wide audience.

Hannibal stars Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen, Laurence Fishburne and Gillian Anderson. The show will come to an end this August.
