10 reasons why Revenge’s Nolan Ross needs his own show

Revenge came to an end in the UK tonight and there’s one scene that hinted at a potential spin-off.

If you haven’t seen the series finale of Revenge and want to avoid spoilers, we suggest you stop reading now. If you have seen it and want to hear our thoughts then keep reading.

In the closing minutes of the series finale, the seed was planted about Nolan Ross’ (Gabriel Mann) life after Revenge. As Emily (Emily VanCamp) and Jack (Nick Wechsler) sailed off into the sunset, Nolan stayed put in the Hamptons and was asked for help by a young man who had been sent to him by Emily for help clearing his mother’s name.

There’s no official word about a spin-off yet, although new series Kingmakers was believed to be a spin-off of sorts (ABC recently passed on the project), but the buzz after the episode aired in the US was pretty lively. Revenge showrunner Sunil Nayar has admitted in interviews that a spin-off has been considered for Nolan but there have been no ‘official’ talks about it with any network.

We think a Nolan spin-off series is a fantastic idea, and despite Revenge’s low ratings by the end of its run, we’re confident that the character could recapture the interest of Revenge fans from yester-year as well as those who watched right through to the end.

After much consideration, we’ve put together our 10 reasons why Nolan should get his own show.

1. Nolan was Revenge’s best character. Don’t get us wrong, we loved Emily and Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) but Nolan always stole the show by delivering the best lines. He’s self-sufficient and before Emily/Amanda came along he was already a successful entrepreneur.

2. Nolan turns investigator. We’d be interested to see Nolan step out of the side-kick role and into the spot investigating cases. Whether it would be one case over the course of a season or different cases every week, we’d tune in to watch him sleuthing away and helping others find justice.

3. Louise (Elena Satine) could come too. We can already see a few disgruntled readers leaving angry comments about this one but we liked Louise. Together with Nolan, the two formed ‘The Wonder Twins’ and they worked well when they were on the same side. We’d enjoy Louise’s Southern sass keeping Nolan in check every week.

4. Other Revenge characters could pop up over the series. Just because Emily and Jack sailed off into the sunset doesn’t mean they’ll never come back. Nolan could reteam with his friends as and when necessary. Wouldn’t it be interesting to see Emily helping Nolan out for once?

5. His fashion. Every week we tuned in and couldn’t wait to see what Nolan would wear next. He took geek chic to a whole new level and had some of the most memorable outfits of the series. Only Nolan could get away with those outfits and he rocked each and every one of them.

6. Gabriel Mann is such a good actor. We’ve seen him in shows other than Revenge and he’s consistently been fantastic. He showcased many sides to his abilities in Revenge and we’d like to see him flex his acting muscles even more in a leading man role.

7. His complicated love life. Over the course of Revenge Nolan had some very interesting love interests and relationships. Could Patrick (Justin Hartley) come back and cause trouble for his old flame? Or maybe Nolan could find a way to make things work with social worker Tony (Josh Pence). Better still, he could have plenty of new love interests to pursue that distract him from the case at hand.

8. Those one-liners. We’re going to miss them! They brightened up even the most average of Revenge episodes. No one could come out with a pithy putdown quite like Nolan.

9. We could learn more about him. All of what we know about Nolan is in the context of the world of Revenge. There’s not been a huge amount of backstory for the character so there’s plenty more potential material to explore.

10. He’s awesome! OK we know this is a lame reason to finish on but we know you agree with us. Nolan is simply one of the best characters from a TV show in recent memory. If he doesn’t get a spin-off we’ll be gutted as the character could easily carry a show.

Would you like to see Nolan get a spin-off series? Leave your comments in the usual place but remember to keep it civil and constructive.
