Youngman – Who Knows? single review

Catchy club song signals good start for Derby youngster.

Original Derby boy Youngman (Simon Smith) has announced the release of Who Knows, the second offering to be taken from his album Me & My Music, which is due to hit shelves later this year.

With a career still in its infancy, here is an artist who has already made his mark as a standout vocalist on the drum’n’bass and dubstep scenes, working closely with the likes of Skream, Breakage and Shy FX. Blurring the lines between underground club favourite and credible mainstream hit, the track itself is a blend of bassy club beats and synth sounds, mixed with a Jay Sean style vocal, which adds an upbeat pop vibe that is sure to appeal to the masses.

However, for a newcomer who’s been hotly tipped as one of the UK’s most exciting and vibrant vocal talents, there seems little need for the auto tune splashed all over his efforts, and hopefully his natural notes will be showcased on his forthcoming album. Thankfully, this doesn’t affect the overall appeal of the track and Who Knows proves to be a strong enough song, featuring a catchy repetitive chorus which is bound to get any audience nodding their heads instinctively.
