Rupaul’s Drag Race UK Series 3 Episode 7 Recap

Welcome to our weekly look at what has been going on in the Werk Room and Main Stage of Rupaul’s Drag Race UK Series 3.

Last week Rupaul shocked everyone by eliminating not one, but two queens from the competition. As we join the remaining five queens immediately following Choriza and River sashaying away, the mood is one of shock, however the other girls seem to agree with Ru’s decision that it was a bad lip sync. Personally, I still think River did enough to stay.

Vanity and Kitty chatted about being sick of being safe and Scarlett tried to say that only Kitty and herself make Ru laugh. It then got a bit awkward with Ella defending herself pointing out she just won Snatch Game – a comedy challenge!

This week, Ru entered the Werk Room to tell the girls that they would be taking part in the first UK Fugly Ball; creating three different looks. It would be race against time with the girls only getting 69 minutes to create their first look; Fugly Swimwear.

As the girls got ready, Kitty talked about loving her bigger, juicier body and having self-confidence. Krystal admitted she feels so much more confident in a drag and how as Luke she is still a virgin. It was kind of hard to take her serious with a starfish on her face to be fair!

On the Main Stage, Ru was joined by Michelle, Alan Carr and Alesha Dixon. As the clock ran out, the Friend, U Gotta Love Yourself beauty pageant began with Fugly Swimwear. Vanity wore a slightly ill-fitted scuba style yellow outfit; Kitty served booby Benidorm; Scarlett actually looked stylish in her crazy cat cossie; Ella was a bit too glam for me and Krystal went for a creature-from-the-deep inspired look. Ru announced the second category was Charity Shop Chic – making an outfit from charity shop items.

As the girls ran to the Werk Room, they were greeted by Chip Shop Sue (who Krystal impersonated last week in Snatch Game). They had 60 minutes to pull together a look that used at least 5 items from the charity shop racks. The girls all rushed about trying on various outfits as Chip Shop Sue waffled away. Except for Krystal who spent most of the time taking off and reapplying her make up.

On the runway, Kitty looked like Daphne from Scooby Doo in a green and purple number; Krystal had a sexy black short pant suit; Ella looked like Dolly Parton from the 70s but with purple hair; Vanity went for orange again in a sparkly dress and a short blonde crop wig and Scarlett had an LBD and portrayed a slutty character in her delivery.

The final look category was Fugly but Fashionable and the queens had 30 minutes to pull the look together. Ella wore a yellow and purple plaid shawl and chaps combo; Vanity looked glam in a black oversized duvet, black wedding dress look; Krystal had a Japanese manga style, brightly coloured furry coat; Scarlett had a velour tracksuit for full on chav complete with a fake baby in matching look and Kitty looked like a librarian but had a reveal. To be honest I was confused about the fugly bit as they looked either too fashion and not ugly or vice versa. None of them went full Asia O’Hara with her fugly look unfortunately!

Ru asked each queen to say whose look they enjoyed of their competitors. Kitty said Scarlett’s chav look; Vanity chose Kitty’s final look as did Scarlett; Ella chose Vanity’s duvet look and Krystal chose Ella’s third look. It made a refreshing change from saying who should go home.

The critiques were all generally pretty good, with the judges pleased with all the queens in the main. After deliberation, Ru crowned Kitty as this week’s winner, giving her a first Rupeter badge. Ella and Krystal were sent to safety meaning Scarlett and Vanity would be facing off in the lip-sync.

In honour of guest judge Alesha Dixon the pair lip-synced to Mis-Teeq’s ‘Scandalous’ and from the get go, Vanity slayed it. Stepping out of her huge dress to reveal a gold chained, black bodice she looked every bit the pop star as she turned out a great performance. Scarlett tried hard but was just outshone by Vanity. Perhaps my favourite thing though was Alesha Dixon living for the lip-sync and freestyle rapping over the song! Ru asked Vanity to stay and sent Scarlett home.

Next week, the final four will be competing in an acting challenge and the guest judge is Russell Tovey.

‘Rupaul’s Drag Race UK’ series 3 continues weekly, Thursday at 7pm on BBC iPlayer/BBC Three.
