Jason Momoa exits The Crow reboot

Jason Momoa (Justice League, Game of Thrones) has exited the planned reboot of The Crow.

The actor posted a message on Instagram telling fans:

‘Iā€™ve waited 8 years to play this dream role. I love you @corinhardy and @sonypictures unfortunately I may have to wait 8 more. Not our team. But I swear I will. James Oā€™Barr sorry to let you down I wonā€™t on the next. This film needs to be set free. And to the fans. Sorry. I canā€™t play anything but what this film deserves and it needs love. Iā€™m ready when itā€™s right. Love u Corin aloha j’

The photo also featured Corin Hardy, who was directing the project but has also now exited. The Hollywood Reporter reports that financial problems arose between the studio Sony and producer Samuel Hadida.

The Crow had been set for an 11th October 2019 release but that has now been scrapped and it looks like the reboot won’t be happening at all.

The reboot was shrouded in controversy after Alex Proyas, the director of the 1994 original, spoke out against it. The director told fans on his Facebook page that he believed the reboot was disrespectful to Brandon Lee, who starred in the original and was killed on set in a tragic accident.

The Crow was based on James O’Barr’s comic book series of the same name and it’s believed the reboot was going to stay faithful to the source material. By the sound of Momoa’s Facebook message, he’s determined to play the role one day so watch this space.
