Danny Wallace investigates the UK town that doesn’t stare for Far Cry 5 launch

This month the latest game in the Far Cry franchise launches and with it comes a brand-new religious cult. All started by one bad seed, or more specifically, a whole family of them.

Far Cry 5 depicts a small town, Hope County, in Montana USA, under siege as it attempts to fight back against the Seed family and regain control. Although quite obviously fictional, Hope County is like any other town. It looks to be pretty idyllic, packed with sights of natural beauty and surrounded by fields of green. In fact, it’s a lot like a little town not too far away. A small town of around 26,000 people, an hour from Central London and the home of Winnie the Pooh – East Grinstead.

As well as Pooh and Piglet, East Grinstead is home to some other famous residents; an unusually high concentration of some of the most notorious, misunderstood and intriguing religious organisations on the planet.

Ubisoft like to do unusual stunts for their game launches. This time they’ve sent comedian Danny Wallace to uncover the truth and asks members of religious groups, why East Grinstead? He’s not always greeted with a warm welcome but meets a lot of interesting characters along the way as he spends a day in “the town that doesn’t stare”. Check out the video above to see what he uncovered.

Far Cry 5 launches March 27th on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
