Blindspot 3×06 Adoring Suspect recap

In the latest episode of Blindspot, the team went undercover on a movie set to stop a terrorist plot.

If you’re not up to date with Blindspot and like to avoid spoilers we suggest you don’t read any further.

The episode opened up with what looked to be a raid on a police station. It turned out to be a movie set and a guy called Keith Rhodes (Malcolm David Kelley) was playing an FBI Agent. After filming stopped Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) arrived on set as their new FBI consultant.

The action switched to eight hours earlier and showed Weller working on his combat skills. His workout session was interrupted by Roman (Luke Mitchell) calling him for another favour. Weller was trying to prevent Jane finding out about Berlin and her daughter as he said it would destroy her. Roman asked if he liked movies.

In the next scene, Weller presented Patterson (Ashley Johnson) with an entertainment magazine. On the cover was actor Keith Rhodes and inside was a tattoo clue embedded in an interview with the star. It pointed at the production company on the actors latest film.

Weller wanted Patterson to loop in Reade (Rob Brown) and Hirst (Mary Stuart Masterson). Patterson said she and Zapata (Audrey Esparza) needed to talk to him about that. Weller and Jane (Jaimie Alexander) met with them to discuss their theory that Roman was trying to take down Hirst. They were concerned about Reade being caught up in it.

Meanwhile, in Barcelona, Roman paid a guy for a folder on Blake Crawford (Tori Anderson). Back at the FBI, the team briefed Hirst and Reade. Rich Dotcom (Ennis Esmer) also attended and wanted to help out. Patterson had figured out that the tattoo pointed to Nico Popov (Misha Kuznetsov), an organised crime boss.

Rich found a photo of Popov and Rhodes together. It was taken a day earlier proving they were both in the US. Weller realised that an attack was probably imminent. The team looked for a cover story to get close to Rhodes. Rich explained that Rhodes was playing an FBI Agent in his latest film. So they proposed going in and replacing the existing FBI consultants.

The action then switched back to the end of the opening scene. Later Weller was advising on a fight scene and wasn’t impressed. At the end of the scene one of the actors was to pretend to use a defibrillator on Rhodes. He did but it was live and he stopped his heart. Weller sprung into action to save him and suspected foul play.

Back at the FBI, Patterson suggested they rescan all of Jane’s new tattoo’s and keep their own private database. She was concerned that Hirst could have manipulated their other one. The only problem was that they didn’t have the metal disk that activated the new tattoos. Jane also told Patterson to stop the search for her daughter as she didn’t want to find her and ruin her life. Patterson tried to talk her out of it but said it was her decision.

Back in Barcelona, Roman ‘accidentally’ bumped into Crawford. She was pleased to see him and she was keen to show him the city. Over the course of the day they grew close.

Weller took Rhodes to the FBI and introduced him to the team. Rhodes seemed interested in Jane and Patterson while Rich was a bit starstruck at meeting his favourite actor. Rhodes didn’t realise he was there to be interrogated. Weller and Jane asked him where they could find Popov and showed him the photo of them together.

Rhodes explained that Popov was just a film buff, so Weller filled him in on how he was a terrorist. They suspected that Popov had tried to have Rhodes killed. Popov had been laundering money through the film production company. Rhodes gave them as much information as he could. The team worked out that the film producer was being used as a front to ship Weapons of Mass Destruction around the world.

The team needed to get access to recordings held in the producers safe so cooked up a plan that required them to go undercover. Rich and Jane distracted him while Weller and Patterson got past the first stage of security that required a fingerprint. The second stage required random spoken words so Rich and Jane had to work them into their conversation to get the producer to say them. It worked and Patterson was able to take the recordings.

At the FBI, Reade had been reviewing certain cases and noticed something wrong with the Loewe case. He confronted Hirst because she hadn’t disclosed certain information. She claimed it had simply slipped her mind. Read didn’t look convinced and she looked a little rattled.

Patterson analysed the recordings and worked out which movie set contained the chemical weapons. Weller and Jane rushed to the scene and found out they were too late. The weapons had been moved meaning the attack could be in progress. Suddenly they came under fire and Rhodes took a bullet. Jane chased down a gunman and after a fight discovered he had a permit for a street festival.

They worked out that the weapons were to be loaded into street food carts. Rhodes told them where to go and they got into a fight with Popov and his men. Rich arrived with a flamethrower and helped take the bad guys out.

At the end of the episode, Read approached Hirst again about Loewe. She replied with a threat about his past involvement with drugs. He later turned up at Weller’s apartment with the disk to activate Jane’s tattoos. He said Hirst was dirty and discovered that the whole team were already working to take her down.
