The Flash season 4: everything we know so far

The Flash ended its third season with Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) willingly trapping himself in the Speed Force to stop the destruction of Central City.

When The Flash season 4 premieres, Barry will still be trapped and time will have moved on since the season finale. How and when he gets out of the Speed Force are being kept under wraps but we hope the resolution isn’t as quick as Flashpoint was.

Ahead of the new season arriving, we’ve rounded up all of the latest news so you know what to expect!

When will The Flash season 4 premiere?

The US premiere of The Flash season 4 will air on The CW at 9/8c on 10th October 2017. The episode is titled The Flash Reborn. It is expected that the show will follow soon after on Sky 1 HD in the UK but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Which characters are season regulars for The Flash season 4?

Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon/Vibe, Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West/Kid Flash, Tom Cavanagh as Harrison Wells and Jesse L. Martin as Joe West.

Which characters are returning for The Flash season 4?

Jessica Camacho will reprise her role as Gypsy meaning we should expect a lot more development for her romance with Cisco.

Anne Dudek, who appeared in a string of episodes in season 3, will return as scientist Tracy Brand in a recurring capacity. We wonder if she’ll hit it off with the Earth-2 version of Wells?

Britne Oldford will make a guest appearance as Shawna Baez/Peek-a-Boo. She was last seen in The Flash: Chronicles of Cisco and in episode 22 of The Flash’s first season in 2015.

Emily Bett Rickards will appear in the fifth episode of the season in a mini Arrow cross-over. It’s been a while since Felicity made an appearance on The Flash and the episode is titled Girls Night Out, so we’re guessing it could be Iris’ bachelorette party!

Which characters aren’t returning for The Flash season 4?

Tom Felton (Harry Potter) will not be returning as Julian Albert after appearing throughout season 3. There are no plans for him to appear in any capacity at this time and it’s unclear how/if his departure will be addressed on the show.

The show runners have said that they don’t plan to bring back Violett Beane as Jesse Quick, at least not for the first part of the season so there’s a good chance we may not see her at all during season 4.

Who are the new characters in The Flash season 4?

Hartley Sawyer will join the show as Ralph Dibny/Elongated Man, a character who was believed to have died in the particle accelerator explosion. Ralph will be a fast-talking private investigator that helps Team Flash.

Katee Sackhoff will join the season in the recurring role of Amunet Black/Blacksmith. Her character operates an underground black market of metahuman supervillains.

Making guest appearances over the course of the season are Sugar Lyn Beard as Rebecca Sharpe/Hazard and Danny Trejo as Breacher, the father of Gypsy.

Who is the main villain for The Flash season 4?

The makers of the show have confirmed that the main villain for season 4 won’t be a speedster, marking a first for the series. Neil Sandilands who plays Clifford DeVoe/The Thinker is expected to be the big bad for the season. The Thinker is a metahuman genius hellbent on righting the wrongs of humanity.

He will be joined by Kim Engelbrecht as Mechanic, his right hand woman.
