ATG raises over £80,000 for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity

Total gathered following a fundraising campaign during the 2016/17 pantomime season.

ATG

Ten ATG theatres took part in the fundraising with bucket collections at every pantomime performance.

ATG’s Group Content and Creative Director, Michael Lynas, presented a cheque for £80,906.71 to the charity’s Chairman, Donald Sturrock, and Senior Fundraising Development Manager, Sarah Reilly, at the Phoenix Theatre in London.

Mr Sturrock said, “Thanks to the amazing support of ATG and their incredibly generous pantomime audiences, Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity is delighted to have received a donation of £80,906.71. This phenomenal total can pay for more than 1.5 years of specialist nursing care and is helping us to create new Roald Dahl specialist children’s nurses in Leeds, Birmingham, Dartford and Portsmouth, as well as helping children from every part of the UK through the charity’s family grants programme. This support will make a huge difference to the lives of hundreds of children living with the most serious and rare conditions.”

The Phoenix Theatre also has one of Sir Quentin Blake’s paintings on display titled “The Phoenix”. The acclaimed cartoonist and illustrator was best known for illustrating Roald Dahl’s books.

Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity was set up 25 years ago by Roald Dahl’s widow, Liccy Dahl. The charity provides specialist children’s nurses and family support for seriously ill children across the UK. Today there are currently 52 Roald Dahl specialist children’s nurses caring for over 10,000 seriously ill children across the UK at any one time.
