Discover Children’s Story Centre celebrates World Book Day

Discover Children’s Story Centre will be bursting at the seams with exciting activities on World Book Day (Thursday 2nd March) and onwards throughout the weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday 3rd,4th,5th March) as imagination explodes throughout the magical building in Stratford East London!

The World premiere of Drip Drop, for little ones (0-3), opens on WBD. A brilliant rain filled multi-sensory event with Discover’s Story Builders. Puppetry, music and movement splash together in this beautiful and fun session with performer Alice Mackenzie, puppeteer and Sally Goldsworthy bursary-winner Matt Hutchinson and beatboxer Jack ‘Hobbit’ Hobbs.

Fancy a selfie with The Cat in the Hat and his very special car? Then jump into Discover’s WBD photo booth.

And then there’s mayhem over the WBD weekend when artist in residence illustrators Joe Berger and Kristyna Litten take over Discover’s Events Space for a weekend of fantastic workshops. Author and cartoonist Joe is running a workshop for 7+ (Saturday 4th March 11.30am, 2pm) to create cartoons and transform Discover into a comic den, as he introduces his hilarious new book The Pudding Problem! While Kristyna’s workshop for 3+ (Sunday 5 March 11.30am, 2pm) will cut, stick, paste and create a pet robot collage of your very own, inspired by her new picture book, Norton and the Robot.

There’s an exclusive schools programme on World Book Day (Thursday 2nd March 2017) with Discover’s Stratford Library take-over. In the morning, award-winning children’s author-illustrator Cressida Cowell (How To Train Your Dragon) unveils her highly anticipated, brand new fantasy series; and in the afternoon session comedian Julian Clary arrives with his hilarious new children’s book about a family of hyenas, The Bolds On Holiday, and is joined on stage by the book’s illustrator David Roberts for some live-drawing.
