The latest episode of Conviction picked up where the previous one finished. It showed that after the execution of Earl that Hayes (Hayley Atwell) and Wallace (Eddie Cahill) slept together. Later Wallace announced that he and Naomi were taking a break.
Back at the office Hayes and the CIU team reviewed the case of a young woman jailed for murdering a University star Basketball player. The woman had accused the player of getting her drunk and raping her but denied involvement in his murder.
She had gone down for the crime as DNA evidence linked her to the handgun responsible for the murder. Frankie (Manny Montana) pursued further testing and proved that mistakes had been made.
After questioning lots of people they uncovered more girls who said they had been raped by the same guy. Eventually they were able to figure out that it was their rape councillor who had killed him to protect other girls.
Elsewhere in the episode, Matty (Alex Mallari Jr.), the guy from the coffee cart, turned up at the CIU office with coffee for Tess (Emily Kinney). She hadn’t been to see him for a while and was still feeling unable to tell him of her involvement in his wrongful conviction for the murder of her aunt. After she agreed to go on a date with him, Frankie convinced her to come clean to Matty. She did and he walked away.
At the end of the episode, after encouragement from her brother Jackson (Daniel Franzese), Hayes plucked up the courage to confront Wallace. She told him she was all in for another relationship and Wallace agreed.
The next episode of the season is Black Orchid. The CIU investigate when new murders take place bearing the hallmarks of a jailed serial killer. Was he innocent, or is there a copycat at work?
