Skye | Ross Islington Assembly Hall – London live review

There is something uniquely special about gigs at the Islington Assembly Hall. The building is so old and full of historic charm, but with a modern and funky edge. The sound system and lighting is fantastic and it gives gigs a special feel. The fans were pretty eager to watch Skye | Ross. The crowd bravely started to queue in the cold, 45 minutes before the doors even opened. It’s safe to say that they hold a special place in the heart of their fans, especially those who loved them as part of Morcheeba. Having embarked on a global tour, that took in the likes of North America and major cities throughout Europe – it was now London’s turn. The gig was their ‘homecoming’, as Ross called it.

Skye looked stunning and full of life as she graced the stage with such elegance and a joyful aura. I couldn’t wait to hear her vocals live and they are just so dreamy to listen to. Song after song, she seemed to effortlessly sound fantastic, gently swaying to the music and soothing our cold and winter souls. Skye and Ross were ready to have fun and their set list just flowed. With the crowd singing back songs to them and dancing and swaying with massive grins on their faces – you could feel the happiness levels in the room hitting another level.

Their cover of David Bowie’s Let’s Dance was particularly cool, and everyone in the room got up and together for this. Those who were perched on the edge of the room or leaning on the bar suddenly got up and started swaying. Skye loved every moment of it. Her outfit was incredibly cool, complete with a black-feathered skirt that swished as she grooved. She said that she made it herself, Blue Peter style – we’re not sure if that’s true, but either way, we loved it!

Hearing Skye | Ross live are such a joy. They are natural, full of love for their music and radiate such a wonderful vibe. They certainly made me feel happy and serene. Skye gives off a childlike, beautiful and carefree persona on stage and her smile can certainly light up a room. Their new material sounds as if they have been around for ages. They have that familiar and comforting sound of songs that make you feel a little warm and fuzzy inside. Skye | Ross are on fine form and it’s great to have them back.
