Exciting year for Discover Children’s Story Centre

2016 will be the most exciting year for Discover Children’s Story Centre with a major new architectural refurbish, layout and magical design – but fear not, a full calendar of Discover programming jumps into action from April to July across four boroughs!

They have also announced a brand new exhibition The Fantastic World of Dr. Seuss which will be at the heart of Discover’s official grand re-opening of the new look building on Wednesday 20th July 2016 (which will be open to public from Saturday 23 July 2016 – June 2017).

Reopening in July, the all new Discover’s first exhibition will bring to life the fantastic world of Dr. Seuss. Step inside the vivid and fully immersive exhibition inspired by Dr. Seuss’s beautiful illustrations from his funny and fantastical stories including: The Cat In The Hat, The Lorax, Green Eggs And Ham and Oh The Places You Will Go. Climb onto the Once-ler Wagon, dress up as Thing 1 and Thing 2, play music with the Boom Band and maybe even come across The Cat in the Hat or Sam I Am! DR. SEUSS’s sense of fun explored in his books will explode into life, for all to discover the words and language that makes them some of the most popular books of all time.

Susan Brandt, President of Dr. Seuss says: “Discover‘s unique creative vision will bring the Dr. Seuss books to life with a bang. It is very exciting that children and families will be able to step inside his delightfully funny world – and I know Dr. Seuss would have thoroughly approved!”

Karla Barnacle Best, Chief Executive of Discover says: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the Discover Team to use their flair and imagination to bring these extraordinary books to life in the heart of East London. The stories are joyous, playful and creatively stimulating; reflecting the values that are the essence of Discover.”

Starting life as an Edwardian hotel, the building’s own story will also feature in the new internal design. Children will play and explore the new multiple layers, made to inspire new stories for every visit to the story centre. Even the external gargoyles will be involved!

The all-new look will include a magical staircase, a relaxed area for structured learning on the second floor for 7+ years; a first floor café which will have a modern spin on the Edwardian hotel banqueting hall; re-imagined resident areas including: Story Trail, Lollipopter, Polka Dot Sounds and Trip Trap Bridge; plus a brand new Story Trail area for pre-schoolers that leads into the delightful Discover garden.

Michael Rosen’s Bear Hunt, Chocolate Cake and Bad Things! Exhibition will tour nationwide throughout 2016 and 2017; and The Wonderful World of Oliver Jeffers Exhibition will move to Liverpool in February 2016.

The all new Discover and their brand new exhibition The Fantastic World of Dr. Seuss opens with the Grand Official Opening on Wednesday 20th July, with public access from Saturday 23rd July 2016 – June 2017.
