Yoko Ono to be honoured with Inspiration Award

NME couldn’t be prouder to reveal that it will be honouring Yoko Ono with its Inspiration Awards this month.

Yoko Ono, who celebrates her 83rd birthday on 18th February will start the celebrations early at the award ceremony where her career will be recognised for its influence, inspiration and delight for generations of musicians. People who have said to be influenced by Yoko Ono include David Bowie, Ornette Coleman, Nile Rogers, Eric Clapton, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sonic Youth, Arcada Fire, Lady Gaga, Anthony Hegarty, Savages and Boy George.

Some testaments to Yoko Ono include:

Yoko Ono herself announced on hearing the news: “Thank you, NME for this great honour. I accept this as your encouragement for me to keep making my “Sound of Music” I love you! Yoko”

As an icon and a rebel, her revolutionary ideas and concepts have subverted cultural norms and boundaries, and she shows no sign of slowing down even as she turns 83.  Yoko is a truly amazing inspiration who we’re honoured to welcome to the NME Awards with Austin, Texas this year.”

The NME Awards with Austin, Texas season kicked off at the weekend with the NME Awards Tour 2016 with Austin, Texas. Ticket recipients will have a chance to see up and coming artists as well as well established ones such as, Blossoms, Kid Wave, Spring King, Alex G, VANT, Together Pangea, Crows, Pretty Vicious, Suede, The Magic Gang, Declan McKenna, Mystery Jets, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Swim Deep and The Strypes.

Yoko Ono will be the recipient of The NME Awards with Austin 2016 Inspiration Award on the even of her 83rd birthday at London’s O2 Brixton Academy on 17th February.
