Elementary 4×02 Evidence of Things Not Seen preview

Elementary returned to UK screens last week for its fourth season, just two weeks behind the US.

The first episode followed on from the dark events of the season three finale. Instead of jumping straight in where it left off we joined Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) and Watson (Lucy Liu) a few days later.

Sherlock nearly killed Oscar Rankin before being tempted by Heroin again. He was in a mess when we last saw him but it seems, for now at least, he’s managed to stay clean since.

While waiting to find out if the D.A. will charge him with felonious assault and jail-time Sherlock was keeping himself busy. He’s spending his time trying to work out what will happen while also investigating some really old crimes.

Watson was contacted by Sherlock’s father, Mr. Morland Holmes (John Noble). He’s heard what has happened with Sherlock and announced his intentions to visit. Sherlock is used to being let down and doesn’t expect him to show. True to form he does indeed miss the arranged meeting.

Trying to keep himself drug-free Sherlock continued to attend support meetings. While on his way to one such meeting he was confronted by criminal Jonathon Bloom. He confessed to Sherlock about killing two girls and even gave the location of their bodies. He said he wanted to hire Sherlock to prove that he didn’t kill his wife before pulling a gun out and blowing his brains out.

Sherlock knew that he may never work for the NYPD again due to his actions so busied himself with investigating Mr Blooms claims. He also enlisted Watson to help and they quickly validated the claims about the girls.

Eventually Sherlock went to see a visibly upset Captain Gregson who told him that no matter what the D.A. decides they will no longer be able to work with him and Watson.

At the end of the episode Sherlock returned home to the Brownstone to find his father up on the roof. It was a brief scene that acts as a taster of what is to come. Their relationship is a complex one and his father told him that he came to fix his mess. John Noble looks like a brilliant choice for Sherlock’s father.

The second episode of the new season is Evidence of Things Not Seen. When Morland offers to use his influence to have Sherlock and Joan reinstated as consultants to the NYPD, Sherlock’s mistrust of his father makes him question his motivation to help. Also, with no work offers coming in, Watson wrangles a gig with the FBI investigating a triple homicide in a top-secret research lab.

Tune in to Sky Living HD at 9pm on Thursday 26th November to see the second episode. Preview it with our gallery below:
