Matt Jamison (Christopher Eccleston) realised that life outside of Miracle was tougher than he thought on the latest episode of The Leftovers.

After taking his wife out of town for a doctor’s appointment to see if her vegetative state had changed, Matt found out that she was pregnant. As he rushed to get her back home, he stopped to help a man and his son who had broken down only to be beaten and robbed of his Miracle wristbands. Matt attempted to get back into Miracle but failed and ended up trying to find another way by hitting a man with a paddle and screaming ‘Brian’ to earn money (we’ve no idea either!).

In the end Nora (Carrie Coon) and Kevin (Justin Theroux) came to Matt’s help and got them back inside Miracle. Once in they happened upon a car crash and it turned out to be the man who had robbed Matt and Mary. The man was dead but his son wasn’t so Matt took one wristband and put it on Mary before asking Nora to look after her.

Matt then handed the young boy over to the Murphy’s patriarch before heading to the peasants’ camp and freeing a naked man from the stocks, whose place he took.

The next episode of the season is Lens. Some unexpected visitors get under Nora’s skin, and she becomes preoccupied with a burning question about herself. Kevin’s predicament becomes impossible to ignore. Erika (Regina King) finds an unlikely ally and reveals some haunting secrets.
