A candlelit Union Chapel in Islington, North London, with its haunted corridors, secret passageways and hidden vaults, is famously known to be the perfect venue to watch your favourite horror films.

For one night only, The Union Chapel Organ Project present the vintage horror classic Phantom of the Opera (1925) with a live score played by Donald Mackenzie on their 1877 Henry Willis Organ. Spooky food and cocktails will be served in the bar from 6.30pm (not included in the ticket price) and there will be a late bar after the screening. Phantom of the Opera inspired fancy dress is encouraged!

The Phantom of the Opera is a 1925 American silent horror film adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel Le Fantôme de l’Opéra. It was directed by Rupert Julian and starred Lon Chaney, Sr in the title role of the deformed Phantom who haunts the Paris Opera House, causing murder and mayhem in an attempt to make the woman he loves a star. The movie remains most famous for Chaney’s ghastly, self-devised make-up, which was kept a studio secret until the film’s première.

The Phantom of the Opera is #52 on Bravo’s 100 Scariest Movie Moments and was one of 400 films nominated to be on the AFI’s 100 Years… 100 Movies (10th Anniversary Edition).
