The Dog Rescuers with Alan Davies to return

The Dog Rescuers with Alan Davies is set to return for a Christmas Special and a third series of 12 hour long episodes.

Following on from the success of the second series which hit a peak of 1.7 million viewers, The Dog Rescuers follows RSPCA inspectors and officers that deal with ensuring manā€™s best friend is being properly treated.

Using the latest forensic technologies and good old fashioned leg work, the series follows the RSPCA inspectors as they track down and rescue some of the 150,000 animals which are abused and mistreated in England and Wales every year, and witnesses the struggle to rehabilitate the victimised animals and to prosecute the offenders.

The Christmas Special will update viewers on the stories of the dogs rescued during the second series. Alan Davies throws a Christmas party for the series’ stars as he looks back at some of the stories including Oslo the Husky saved by the vets at Harmsworth Hospital, Tyson the Staffordshire Bull Terrier rescued from living on a scrap heap and Minnie the over anxious Leonberger cross.

He’ll also be telling the incredible story of Eddie a German Shepherd cross, who managed to survive incredible neglect in a story dubbed “The Miracle of Christmas”. Plus we’ll meet the RSPCA’s Derek Hampson aka Santa Paws as he hands out presents to unhomed rescue dogs across the England and Wales.

Greg Barnett, Commissioning Editor at Channel 5 who ordered the series said, ā€œAlan Davies adds great warmth to this wonderful series which is both heart-breaking and uplifting at the same time. Iā€™m delighted Channel 5ā€™s viewers loved it so much that we can bring it back and continue to get the people of Britain behind the good work of rescuing and rehoming dogsā€.

David Sumnall, MD of Middlechild Productions adds, “Itā€™s great news that Channel 5 have decided to recommission The Dog Rescuers with Alan Davies for a third run. We love making the show with GroupM and highlighting the incredible work the RSPCA do. Itā€™s rare to work on a series that can make you cry tears of sadness, get unbelievably angry and cheer with joy in every episode. The series makes a real difference to hundreds of dogs lives so long may it continue.”

The return date for The Dog Rescuers is to be confirmed at the time of writing this article.
