East Is East is returning to the London stage for the first time in 17 years with Jane Horrocks starring as Ella Khan.
Written by award-winning playwright Ayub Khan Din, East is East first premiered at the Royal Court and was turned into a much-loved feature film. Khan Din himself will star in the play opposite Horrocks as her husband George āGenghisā Khan.
Pakistani chip-shop owner George Khan – “Genghis” to his kids – is determined to give his children a strict Muslim upbringing against the unforgiving backdrop of 1970s Salford. Household tension reaches breaking point as their long-suffering English mother, Ella, gets caught in the cross fire – her loyalties divided between her marriage and the free will of her children.
The production is directed by Sam Yates and follows Richard III in Jamie Lloydās second season for Trafalgar Transformed. The show will run from 4th October 2014 to 3rd January 2015.
Priority on-sale is taking place now with general on-sale for tickets starting on Tuesday 13th May 2014. For more information head over to www.trafalgartransformed.com
