Fashion Getaway review

We take a look at the new dress-up puzzle game from Total Eclipse.

Fashion Getaway is a new dress-up and puzzle game for iOS from Greek indie developer Total Eclipse. The game is suitable for all ages and free-to-play with optional In-App Purchases available.

Before you can play you must choose from one of four international models – Cecilia, Sally, Jamila, Hitomi. Your chosen model doesn’t impact the game she just becomes your first model to dress-up. As well as a model the game also gifts you 3,000 gems which are the in-game currency.

First impressions count and Fashion Getaway doesn’t disappoint with lovely presentation, bright colourful hand-drawn visuals and some catchy music. After you have selected your model you are taken to the home screen where you can access your wardrobe, dress your model up, buy new items or new models.

Fashion Getaway - Model

You get some basic outfits to begin with and you can also change the colours of them to your liking. Everything else you do costs gems this includes buying new clothes, models and locations. The game is going to be most popular with young girls and they will likely burn through their initial gems in just a few minutes.

New models look identical in pose but have different names, faces and skin colours. To unlock additional models will set you back 600 gems each. So five new models and you’re already out of gems. You can also spend gems on clothing items which are more reasonable and start at 40 gems for an item. A nice touch is the ability to try an item on a clothes dummy before purchasing. Most don’t go above 100 gems but kids are going to want to buy everything.

You can top-up gems by using real money and they start at £1.99 for 3,000 up to £5.49 for 40,000. To prevent accidental purchases the developers have added an optional parental gate to allow you to restrict the purchase of gems.

Another way to top-up your gems is to play the included Catwalk Memories game. Here you get a few seconds to memorise a girl and her outfit before you have to recreate the scene. Based on how much you get right and how fast you do it you are rewarded with a handful of gems. Each game only takes a few seconds and on average kids will earn around 5 gems per game.

So 5-10 mins of effort can be enough to buy a new item and this can become addictive. If you want a boost you can also purchase a gem duplicator for £2.99 to double your gem rewards. The game is only a simple memory game but younger kids will find it fun plus they are learning to improve their memory as they play. Older kids are likely to get bored quickly and it’s a shame that there is only a single game to play as it does get repetitive.

Dressing the models is as easy as tapping on the different items you want them to wear. If you can’t decide there is also a handy random outfit button to use. There are hundreds of items to choose from including Hairstyles, Tops, Bottoms, Skirts, Dresses, Shoes, Hosiery, Jackets & coats, swimwear, accessories (glasses, bags, belts, hats, gloves, scarves) and jewellery.

The final option available is to fly your model off to different locations around the world. This is nothing more than giving a different background to give the impressions of a new location but kids will love the choices. Once in a location you can save pictures of your model in her outfit that you’ve chosen to your photo gallery.

Fashion Getaway is well presented game that will keep young girls entertained for many hours. They’ll love the dressing up and taking pictures of their favourite models. A few different mini-games to collect gems would be a nice addition to the game. If you have young girls who like to dress-up then be sure to grab them a copy of Fashion Getaway.
