Our Top 10 George Michael singles

As the iconic singer prepares to release his new album, we look at his best moments.

George Michael

George Michael has had a remarkable career both as a solo artist and as part of Wham!

On 17th March, George is releasing his first album in a decade which sees him reworking some of his classic songs and recording a selection of covers. The album, Symphonica, has already unveiled its lead single which is a cover of Terence Trent D’arby’s Let Her Down Easy.

As George prepares to take the charts by storm once again, we’ve put together our Top 10 songs from his solo career. Take a look at what made the countdown.

10. Careless Whisper (1984)

We start our countdown with a bit of a grey area by including Careless Whisper. The song was featured on a Wham album but is sometimes credited as Wham! featuring George Michael. The song is a classic and who hasn’t sung it at karaoke at some point?

9. Too Funky (1992)

The iconic music video helped propel this to number 4 in the UK charts. As the title suggests it’s one of George’s funkiest singles and one that we think gets a little over-looked in his back catalogue.

8. Kissing A Fool (1988)

Maybe not one of his best-charting but there’s no doubt that Kissing A Fool is a charming song. The jazz style suits George down to the ground allowing his silky smooth voice to drive the seductive melody.

7. Freedom! ’90 (1990)

George added the ’90 but to the title so Wham! fans didn’t get it confused with their song of the same name. Amazingly the song only reached 28 in the UK charts but it’s definitely one of George’s most-loved. We just wish Robbie Williams had stayed away from it.

6. Outside (1998)

The music video for Outside was one of George’s most controversial as he poked fun at his public indiscretions whilst dressed as a police officer dancing in a public loo. The video aside the song is one of our favourites and never fals to get us dancing.

5. Praying For Time (1990)

A big ballad with an important message. This George classic is simply stunning. It was the lead single from Listen Without Prejudice: Vol 1 and is one of George’s most memorable and powerful singles.

4. Father Figure (1988)

A classic track from the Faith album. Father Figure is George at his emotive best as he oozes soul with every note he sings. As near to perfect as a song can get.

3. Jesus To A Child (1996)

This track may not make many George Michael Top 10s but we love how simple and moving it is. It was the first of two number ones from Older and George’s vocal on the track is simply divine.

2. Fastlove (1996)

A number one hit for George in the UK, Fastlove was taken from Older. The smooth pop meets R&B with a bit of soul is an absolute classic and one of George’s finest moments. All these years on, we still can’t get enough of it.

1. Faith (1987)

It kinda had to be didn’t it? That iconic video, the shaking hips, the guitar riff that runs through the track. Faith is without a doubt our favourite George Michael track to date.
