Gary Lineker has joined forces with his father Barry for the new Walkers crisps campaign.
For the launch of their Home Grown range, Walkers challenged Gary to journey across the UK to visit Walkers farms and producers, and taste test the home grown ingredients first hand. Gary enlisted the help of his father Barry, a market trader who ran Lineker’s fruit and veg stall in Leicester Market for over 40 years.
Commenting on his journey taken with his Dad, Gary shares: “Everyone knows I love my Walkers crisps but to fully appreciate and understand this journey of taste and provenance, I needed a hand from someone who knew his fruit from his veg – so my Dad was the perfect partner. We clocked up over 800 miles in our trusty campervan to taste Walkers specially selected home grown ingredients… my Dad’s map reading wasn’t up to much though!”
Walkers has spent the last two years searching the UK to find the best British ingredients to include in the Home Grown range. They have also reduced salt content across many of their flavours.
The 11 flavours from Walkers’ core range will feature premium cheddar cheese from Somerset in Cheese & Onion; juicy tomatoes from the Vale of Evesham in Prawn Cocktail and Tomato Ketchup; salt from Cheshire in Ready Salted; Sour Cream from Dorset in Sour Cream & Chive; Freedom Foods approved British pork in Smoky Bacon; British Vinegar in Salt & Vinegar and Pickled Onion flavours; British blended Worcester Sauce in the popular Worcester Sauce flavour and free range Chicken from Devon in our Roast Chicken flavour.
