Lucy Spraggan rose to fame during last year's X Factor but now the singer-songwriter has just scored her first hit single Lighthouse.
Openly gay, Spraggan is featured on the cover of this month's issue of DIVA and opens up during an interview with the magazine. She talks about how the X Factor initially tried to make her change image saying, “My music relates to my personality, it’s honest and it’s my opinion, so changing the way I look would massively conflict against that. It’s a hard thing to have people wanting you to change the way you look, but the right mind-set and the ability to say ‘No’ when you need to will go a long way.”
She also opens up about her thoughts on stars who choose to stay in the closet, ‘“That’s their choice to make and they’ll have their various reasons. Even if it’s a marketing thing, I think they should get a bit more praise for appreciating and wanting to help maintain their career. It shouldn’t be an issue for anyone, to come out, but it is for some people. And that’s their decision.”
The new issue of DIVA is out now in all major retailers and digitally on www.divadigital.co.uk. Check out Lucy on the cover below:
