Daniel Craig has spoken to Jonathan Ross in his first sit-down interview for new James Bond movie Spectre.
The exclusive one-off special airs on Saturday night on ITV and sees the star opening up about the new movie.
Talking to Jonathan about working with director Sam Mendes again, Daniel says, āWe [Sam and I] both were kind of on the same page… that youāve got to start with the character, what does that character do? What is his emotional journey? And then have that in a Bond movie.ā
Jonathan probed Daniel about Bond’s emotional issues that have been touched on in previous films asking, āWould he be someone who you could hang out with or would he be someone who you would
avoid because heās so emotionally closed?ā
āThat wouldnāt be the reason I would avoid him,ā Daniel replied, āThat would be low down the list
of reasons āno heās so emotionally closedā [he laughs]. The fact that he kills people three times a
weekā¦ Iāve been fortunate I suppose to meet quite a few guys from MI6 and they always impress
me, theyāre very together people, way more together than I could ever hope to be. I don’t know,
itās one of those things – heās fun at a party but donāt stay too late.ā
During the interview Daniel also promises that the new film will have the gadgets and gimmicks associated with the franchise. āI canāt really reveal anything but needless to say we havenāt shied away from [them]ā¦ We wanted to embrace it a bit more, traditionally Q has always been older than Bond and weāve got a brilliant actor in Ben [Whishaw] and we wanted to use him and what heās about and weāve got a few things that I think youāll like.ā
Naomie Harris returns as Moneypenney for Spectre. Daniel talked about the relationship between the character and Bond. āThere is a great working relationship thatās a big flirt and itās great to play and Naomie [Harris] does it brilliantly but also we get her involved in the story and we donāt have her sitting at the desk outside Mās office all the time – although thereās bits of that – and thereās very funny bits of that, but sheās in the field and that’s how we started the character out and when youāve got as good an actress as Naomie, you want her in the movie.ā
Spectre is due to be released in UK cinemas on 26th October 2015.
James Bond’s Spectre with Jonathan Ross, airs at 6.30pm Saturday 17th October on ITV.
