Shooting on Armando Iannucci’s The Personal History of David Copperfield has begun today.
The adaptation of the Dickens classic stars Dev Patel (Lion) as the title character. He is joined by Tilda Swinton (Doctor Strange), Hugh Laurie (House), Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who), Ben Whishaw (Perfume), Paul Whitehouse (The Death of Stalin), Aneurin Barnard (Dunkirk), Daisy May Cooper (This Country), Morfydd Clark (The Falling), Benedict Wong (Avengers: Infinity War), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) Anthony Welsh (Fleabag) and Rosalind Eleazar (Howards End).
Iannucci’s film is a fresh take on Charles Dickensā semi-autobiographical The Personal History of David Copperfield. Set in the 1840s, it chronicles the life of its iconic title character as he navigates a chaotic world to find his elusive place within it. From his unhappy childhood to the discovery of his gift as a storyteller and writer, Davidās journey is by turns hilarious and tragic, but always full of life, colour and humanity.
The film will be produced by Kevin Loader (The Death of Stalin) and Iannucci. It was developed with FilmNation Entertainment and is co-financed by FilmNation Entertainment and Film4.
The Personal History of David Copperfield is written by Iannucci and Simon Blackwell (In The Loop). The film is currently shooting on location in the UK. Principal photography is underway on location in the UK.
