Eli Young Band reflect on 25 years of friendship and music in new documentary ‘This Is Eli Young Band’

Country hitmakers Eli Young Band are celebrating more than two decades of music, friendship, and milestones with the release of their new short-form documentary, ‘This Is Eli Young Band,' now available to watch on YouTube. The 26-minute film takes fans on a journey from the group’s early days as fraternity brothers at the University of North Texas to becoming 18x RIAA-certified chart-toppers, exploring the bond and dedication that have fuelled their enduring success.

Featuring the original and only lineup of Mike Eli, James Young, Jon Jones, and Chris Thompson, the documentary offers an intimate look at the band’s 25+ year journey. Through exclusive interviews and rare archival footage, the members reflect on their first college bar gigs in Denton, Texas, breakout hits like ‘Crazy Girl,' and the experience of touring alongside country greats such as Kenny Chesney. “I love to look back over the years and remember everything we’ve been through and accomplished,” said frontman Mike Eli. “You forget sometimes how crazy the journey’s been. I’m so glad to have an opportunity to share our story with the world.”

Directed and edited by Jeff Ray, ‘This Is Eli Young Band' includes behind-the-scenes studio footage, early recording sessions, and commentary from longtime manager George Couri and Big Machine Label Group founder Scott Borchetta. The film highlights the band’s key moments — from their first record deal to four No. 1 hits and their first ACM Award win in 2012 — while giving fans a glimpse into the creation of their new, independent album ‘Strange Hours.'

Recorded at Panhandle House Studio in Denton, where they made their 2005 debut ‘Level,' ‘Strange Hours' finds the group reconnecting with their roots while embracing the growth and perspective that comes with longevity. Balancing feel-good anthems, heartfelt ballads, and the raw energy that has defined their sound, the new project reaffirms Eli Young Band’s place as one of country music’s most consistent and beloved acts.

The documentary release coincides with the band’s headlining ‘Strange Hours Tour,' which continues to bring their electrifying live show to audiences nationwide. Even after more than two decades together, Eli Young Band remain focused on what matters most — making timeless music and crafting songs their families can be proud of for generations to come.
