Mariah Carey was celebrated at the MTV VMAs 2025 last night in New York, where she picked up the prestigious Video Vanguard award.
Remarkably, the award is Carey's first at the MTV VMAs despite her having achieved 19 number ones over the course of her four-decade career. To mark the occasion, the diva performed a medley of her hits at the awards.
Opening with her current single ‘Sugar Sweet', Carey performed parts of her biggest hits including ‘Fantasy', ‘Heartbreaker', ‘Honey' and ‘Obsessed'. A mash-up of “It's Like That” and ‘Type Dangerous' paved the way for the climax of ‘We Belong Together'. Carey was flanked by background visuals and dancers throughout the performance.
Carey was given her Video Vanguard award by Ariana Grande, with the two stars and collaborators sharing a sweet moment on stage. Over the course of the evening Carey picked up a second VMA for Best R&B, for her single ‘Type Dangerous'.
On 26th September, Carey will release her new album ‘Here For It All'. The set is her first since 2018's ‘Caution' and fans are eagerly waiting to hear the full project.
