Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe, Grammy and Emmy Award-winner Queen Latifah is Robyn McCall, an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills as a former CIA operative to help those with nowhere else to turn.

Latifah stars and executive-produces ‘The Equalizer', which follows a gender-flipped version of agent Robert McCall, originally played by Edward Woodward in 1985 and later played by Denzel Washington in the film franchise. Latifah, previously teased a potential meeting of her character and that of Washington’s saying “That’s up to D” adding, “I’d be more than happy to connect with him on any level”. After the success of the ‘The Equalizer 3' film which earned $191 million worldwide on a budget of $70 million, there are two more sequels planned for the franchise, so a potential crossover may still be on the cards.
‘The Equalizer' is filmed around New Jersey and has previously filmed at Latifah’s own High School, Irvington High (where her mother was also an art teacher). Season 5 of ‘The Equalizer' debuted on CBS in October 2024.
McCall presents to most as an average single mom who is quietly raising her teenage daughter. But to a trusted few, she is The Equalizer- an anonymous guardian angel and defender of the downtrodden, who's also dogged in her pursuit of personal redemption.
