Love spending time in the kitchen making food for parties and occasions but stuck for inspiration? Well we have got the book for you! ‘Godzilla: The Official Cookbook’ from Kayce Baker takes inspiration from the iconic character, compiling over 60 recipes that you can make with the family. There’s a mix of sweet and savoury to cater for everyone’s palates, and there are even vegetarian and vegan options too.
Bound in a bright green hardback cover, ‘Godzilla: The Official Cookbook’ aims for fun rather than ‘Is It Cake?’-style end results. The book is split into six sections – Drinks, Appetizers, Entrees, Sides, Desserts, and Sauces and Dressings – giving you plenty of inspiration for whatever the occasion is. A lot of the recipes here may be quite familiar but the hook is in the presentation. For example, the ‘Guaczilla’ is much more about the presentation so it looks like Godzilla than it is about anything else.
The Sides section is one of the best in the books with great ideas such as ‘King Ghidorah Dip’, which recreates the three-headed kaiju emerging from a creamy dip, and ‘Godzilla Tails’, which utilises bitter melons to create ghoulish looking tails. The Desserts section gets a little more creative with ‘Rodan Beaks’, which are shaped almond cookies, and the ‘M Space Hunter Nebula Mousse, which is colourful and eye-catching. If you fancy more of a challenge you can try your hand at the ‘MechGodzilla Head’ cake, and it you’re skilled at cake decorating you can easily deviate from the example in the book.
The ‘Sauces and Dressings’ section at the ends gives you all of the dips you need to enhance your food, and you can mix and match depending on what you fancy. These are super simple to make but they will add to your overall experience.
As an experienced baker and cook, my main complaint about this book is that it really is aimed at beginners. There isn’t really anything here that’ll prove too challenging for those with a bit of kitchen skill. That being said, it makes most of the recipes accessible to families and young kids will really enjoy crafting these recipes.
‘Godzilla: The Official Cookbook’ is really a book for families, with a few alcoholic options for the adults to turn to after spending hours in the kitchen with the kids. It’s a nice idea and there are some really effective recipes here. If you’re looking to put on an impressive spread for a kid’s party (minus the booze, of course), then you’ll find plenty of great ideas to help you in here.
