Noah Thompson is carving a new path as an independent artist, and his raw, unfiltered emotions are coming through louder than ever in his music. Known for his heartfelt storytelling, Thompson recently dropped the music video for his debut independent single, ‘Upbringing.'
Directed by Giovanne Gotay and produced by Unveiled Productions, the video offers an intimate look into Thompson’s life, capturing scenes from his childhood “survival” skills to more recent struggles, such as bar fights and alcohol overuse.
“I knew the video for ‘Upbringing' had to be real to my life,” Thompson shared. “I had déjà vu filming it because it was so real. But honestly, when I think back on those days and even watch them back in the video, I don’t see those activities as bad things. It was just what we did to get by, and it was just normal to my family.” Thompson’s early teaser of the video has already captivated fans on TikTok, amassing close to 4 million views.
The release of ‘Upbringing' is only the beginning for Thompson as he continues to explore deeper, more complex stories in his music. His upcoming single, ‘American Dream,' written by acclaimed songwriters Chris Gelbudda, Steven Lee Olsen, and Daniel Tashian, will be released this Friday. The track delves into the struggles often hidden behind the idea of the ‘American Dream.'
In the song’s first verse, Thompson highlights a family’s heart-wrenching decision to send their daughter to rehab amidst financial strain, while another character is caught in a love-devoid relationship. The song poignantly addresses a young woman facing food insecurity while juggling crushing student loans, and a returning soldier confronting trauma without access to essential VA services.
Thompson’s fearless approach to these heavy themes, paired with his hauntingly earnest vocals, promises to set him apart in the genre. His evocative delivery over a sparse acoustic backdrop strikes a powerful emotional chord that listeners won’t soon forget.
