Today marks what would have been the 84th birthday of legendary musician John Lennon, and his life and enduring legacy are being celebrated around the world through various tributes and collaborations. These include the release of Mind Games – The Meditation Mixes, the relighting of Yoko Ono Lennon’s IMAGINE PEACE TOWER in Reykjavik, Iceland, and special programming on SiriusXM’s The Beatles Channel.
One of the standout celebrations is the release of ‘Mind Games – The Meditation Mixes,' a reimagining of John Lennon’s 1973 peace anthem ‘Mind Games.' Created by Sean Ono Lennon, in honour of both his and his father’s birthdays, these nine new Meditation Mixes are designed to guide listeners into a meditative state. The mixes range in length from 5 to 33 minutes, with slowed-down, immersive soundscapes that offer a deep listening experience. Four tracks include binaural versions that focus on different brain wave types—Beta, Delta, Gamma, and Theta—each crafted to provide scientifically proven therapeutic effects through binaural beats.
The Meditation Mixes were first introduced via the Lumenate app during Mental Health Awareness Month, paired with unique light sequences to enhance the meditative experience. The app uses smartphone strobe lights to create a state of consciousness that mimics deep meditation, providing users with a heightened sense of relaxation. The mixes are now available to download and stream, and will be released on limited edition vinyl this Friday, October 11th.
Meanwhile, the Imagine Peace Tower, a tribute to John Lennon created by Yoko Ono, will be lit for the 18th time today at 8 pm GMT in Reykjavik, Iceland. The annual ceremony, held on the island of Viðey, will include music performances and a speech by Reykjavik’s mayor. The tower, first lit in 2007, symbolises Lennon and Ono’s shared commitment to world peace. Fans can watch the lighting event live online at ImaginePeaceTower.com.
The global tributes also include collaborations with Swedish audio tech company Teenage Engineering, mobile game company Beatstar, and D'Addario, as well as a Tim’s Twitter Listening Party for Lennon’s ‘Mind Games' album.
Listen to ‘Mind Games – The Meditation Mixes' today, and join the celebration of John Lennon’s lasting impact on music and peace.
