Do you still miss these cancelled TV shows?

TV shows are cancelled in a heartbeat these days and it’s hard to know which ones to invest in and which ones to skip.

The problem is that a lot of shows now aren’t even getting past a first season because no one is showing up to watch them. If a show doesn’t launch with a huge amount of buzz, audiences wait it out to make sure it’s not going to be cancelled. It’s a self-perpetuating cycle!

With the recent news that “Grey’s Anatomy” spin-off ‘Station 19‘ is coming to an end with its seventh season, it made us think back to all the great TV shows that were cut short before their time. All of the shows we mention in this article, we’re still hoping will make a comeback at some point in the future!

Keep reading to find out which shows we’re missing that got unceremoniously cancelled…

Mistresses

The soapy remake of the UK series of the same name was cancelled in 2016 after 4 seasons. It ended on one hell of a cliffhanger as Dr. Karen Kim (Yunjin Kim) seemingly came back from the dead. We’ll never know who the hell she was or if the show was pulling a ‘Dallas’ on us. Sure, Alyssa Milano jumped ship at the end of season 2 but Jes Macallan, Yunjin Kim and Rochelle Aytes more than carried the show for another two seasons. The thing we miss the most about the show, aside from its crazy plots, is that we truly miss the hot mess that is Karen Kim. May she rest in peace (or not?)

The Following

The first season of ‘The Following’ was one of the best, and most intense, seasons of TV we’ve ever seen. Kevin Bacon as former FBI agent Ryan Hardy trying to stop cult leader Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) was nail-biting and terrifying. It’s true, the subsequent seasons didn’t reach the heights of the first but they were still fantastic escapism. The third season also left us with a cliffhanger as Ryan went off to stop Eliza (Annet Mahendru) and her sadistic group once and for all. Seriously, could the network have not handed us one final season to tie things up?

Brothers & Sisters

The cancellation of ‘Brothers & Sisters’ in 2011 after 5 seasons was, and remains, truly baffling. With a stellar cast that included Sally Field, Rachel Griffiths, Calista Flockhart and Matthew Rhys, was still pulling in big ratings but ABC pulled the plug anyway. The series finale, which wasn’t planned as such, ended with Sarah’s (Griffiths) wedding to Luc (Gilles Marini) and left fans highly unhappy that there was no proper wrap up. There hasn’t been a family drama like it since and honestly, the cancellation annoys us to this day!

The Catch

High-brow ‘The Catch’ most certainly wasn’t but like every Shonda Rhimes series, it was very watchable. Centred on private investigator Alice Vaughan (Mireille Enos) who is conned by her fiancĆ© Benjamin Jones (Peter Krause), the soapy drama had implausible twists, ridiculous plots and a fantastic sense of style. It was actually pretty brilliant if we’re being honest but clearly we’re not allowed to have nice things.

Angel

The most infuriating end to a show, quite possibly, that there’s ever been. ‘Angel’ ran for five seasons and by the end, it was arguably better than parent show ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. Speculation suggests that creator Joss Whedon shot himself in the foot by asking for an early renewal for the show, which caused the network to pull it, but whatever the reason it should have never happened. Angel (David Boreanaz) and co were about to get into a huge battle when the credits rolled and the show ended forever. Gutted.
