In an exciting announcement at the ‘Final Fantasy XIV’ Fan Festival Fan Festival 2024 in Tokyo, SQUARE ENIX® revealed that its highly acclaimed MMO ‘Final Fantasy XIV Online’ has surpassed 30 million registered players worldwide. The company also shared details about ‘Dawntrail’, the upcoming fifth expansion pack scheduled to launch in summer 2024.
During the festival’s opening keynote, Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida disclosed significant information about ‘Dawntrail’. The spotlight was on the introduction of Pictomancer, a magical ranged DPS job that utilises mixed aether and a specialised brush to bring their creations to life. Yoshida also unveiled the addition of the female Hrothgar as a new playable race, set to debut alongside the expansion.
To provide a glimpse of ‘Dawntrail’, a full-length trailer was showcased during the keynote, which you can watch at the top of this article. Additionally, gameplay trailers featuring the Pictomancer and the female Hrothgar were presented.
New Additions in ‘Dawntrail’:
- New City: Solution Nine – A city with towering facades built by a different civilization than Tuliyollal.
- New Area: Heritage Found – A region overflowing with lightning energies, featuring thick thunderclouds and streaks of purple levin.
- New Raid Series: The Arcadion
- New Ultimate Raid: Futures Rewritten (Ultimate)
- New Dungeons: Several new dungeons were introduced through a walkthrough video.
- Expansive Lifestyle Content: Cosmic Exploration
- New Limited Job: Beastmaster
- Crossover Questline: “The Path Infernal” with FINAL FANTASY XVI, set to release in early April.
As a prelude to the official launch in spring 2024, the Open Beta Test for the Xbox Series X|S version will commence in February, allowing Xbox players to join the Warriors of Light in Eorzea.

The upcoming ‘Dawntrail’ expansion will also introduce the game’s first graphical update, featuring improvements to screen-wide aesthetic appeal, higher resolution textures and shadows, and improved material qualities.
