Gasoline and Matches bring the Americana drama on new track ‘Patient Wolves’

Amidst the vibrant tapestry of summer festivals and following the resounding success of their recent hit ‘Afraid to Fall,’ which garnered high praise from none other than Bob Harris himself, Gasoline and Matches are orchestrating another exhilarating chapter in their musical odyssey. This dynamic duo, led by Birmingham’s own Sally Rea Morris and Stephen Marks, is thrilled to unveil their upcoming single, ‘Patient Wolves,’ a tantalizing glimpse into their eagerly anticipated debut album.

Diving headfirst into a more intense and dramatic realm of songwriting, ‘Patient Wolves’ intertwines shades of the classic ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ narrative with the allure of a south-of-the-border Mariachi-style horn section. Under the masterful production of Gavin Monaghan, known for his work with luminaries like Robert Plant, Editors, and Scott Matthews, the track unfurls a sonic tapestry that transcends mere music and resonates like a cinematic masterpiece. It’s a sonic adventure that delves into the emotions of being a distant protector while grappling with the enigma of one’s own motives.

Steve Marks, one half of Gasoline and Matches, reflects on the genesis of ‘Patient Wolves’: “I found myself torn between a sense of protection for my female friends and my own inner instincts at a juncture when many of them were enduring difficult relationships.” This poignant sentiment finds its roots in the quote “A gentleman is simply a patient wolf,” originally attributed to Hollywood icon Lana Turner. The band stumbled upon this quote in a newspaper article, only to later discover its origin. The profound resonance of this expression with their own experiences fuelled the creation of ‘Patient Wolves.’

As the single ‘Patient Wolves’ takes center stage, Gasoline and Matches showcase their most authentic Americana sound to date. Their evolution has not gone unnoticed, as they’ve earned the distinction of being selected by The Americana Music Association UK as one of their showcase artists for the upcoming The Long Road Festival at the end of this month.
