Revisiting Colin Baker’s era of ‘Doctor Who’

There are far too many TARDIS interior sequences

The point of the TARDIS is that it is a plot device used to convey our heroes to the story. The very best, such as ‘The Talons of Weng-Chiang’, have no TARDIS sequences at all. It just materialises to enable the Doctor and his companion to throw themselves into the action. Weaker writers have tended to use TARDIS interior sequences to fill episodes that are under-running. This rule is taken to an apotheosis during this era. There are endless sequences of the Doctor and Peri bickering. This isn’t inherently bad so long as it’s dramatic, but most of the time, it’s all painfully stilted and completely pointless.
