If you are a Batman aficionado and looking to spend one day of the upcoming long weekend in a dark cinema, then this news is for you! Bat-fans in London can rejoice as Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy is coming back to IMAX for a very special engagement.
On Friday 19th (Good Friday), Saturday 20th, Sunday 21st (Easter Sunday) and Monday 22nd April (Easter Monday), the Odeon BFI IMAX in London’s Waterloo will once again fire up the Batmobile to showcase Nolan’s seminal trilogy about Batman, on the best cinema screen in the country.
The marathon trilogy screening starts at 14.30 on all days and will play through Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. One ticket – three of the best DC Superhero movies ever made!
That’s not all – the screenings will have a special pre-recorded Q&A with Christopher Nolan, who will discuss the films and the making of them. The Dark Knight trilogy will be screened in director Christopher Nolan’s favourite format – IMAX 70mm – providing a truly spectacular viewing experience.
Back in 2005, a rebooted Batman Begins stunned the world with its realism and grounded look at the Dark Knight and his rise to become Gotham’s protector. The film starred Christian Bale in his first outing as Bruce Wayne/Batman and co-starred alongside Katie Holmes, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Cillian Murphy, Liam Neeson and Gary Oldman.
In 2008, the release of Nolan’s second Batman movie The Dark Knight was darkened by the tragic news that Heath Ledger had died. His performance would go on to win the film an Oscar, as Ledger’s Joker challenges Bale’s Batman in a battle for the very will of Gotham City. Maggie Gyllenhaal replaced Holmes as Rachel, and Aaron Eckhart joined the cast as Harvey Dent, who becomes Two-Face.
The Dark Knight Rises, released in 2012, is a curious movie, in that the narrative takes place quite some time after the events of The Dark Knight. No doubt the death of Heath Ledger affected the narrative of the film, but it still managed to smash the box-office with Christian Bale forced to take on the man-mountain Bane, played by Tom Hardy. Very much the final chapter in Christopher Nolan’s reign, The Dark Knight Rises finds Gotham dealing with an urban terrorist who literally wants to break Batman. Anne Hathaway, Juno Temple and Marion Cotillard also appeared in the film.
