Leeds Playhouse to stage random

This February, Leeds Playhouse presents random, the one-woman play from award-winning playwright debbie tucker green.

It’s an ordinary day in the ordinary life of an ordinary family — and then one random act changes everything. A bewildered family find themselves caught up in catastrophe and grief in this vivid, detailed and brilliantly observed play.

Kiza Deen, known for her roles in Silent Witness and Hollyoaks, stars in this single-handed production, which is directed by award-winning director Gbolahan Obisesan.

“random is beautifully crafted,” explains Gbolahan. “It is poetic as much as it’s smartly layered with colloquially recognisable personalities and characters. Most importantly, it is the voices of the family that stays with us and makes us reflect on the collective shock we all need to feel; because such stories are still prevalent in our society and we shouldn’t be forced to carry on but compelled to find solutions to the problem.”

random will share the same staging as Kes in the Playhouse’s Pop-Up theatre.

Gbolahan: “It is open for interpretation, but I would suggest both plays have complimentary themes of isolation and the search for continual freedom from concern, and freedom of expression crucial to the perspectives of the characters being depicted. Ultimately it is the voice and experience of relatable but vulnerable teenagers…”

random is at Leeds Playhouse from 4 to 16 February 2019. Book online at leedsplayhouse.org.uk or call the Box Office on 0113 213 7700.
