Ward Thomas release Lie Like Me video

UK country duo Ward Thomas have released the video for their brand new single, Lie Like Me.

The clip shows the group – made up of twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy – performing the poppy, upbeat track against a plain background. The frequent switches in their appearance, from simple jeans and T-shirts to bright colours and full make-up, echo the song’s theme of ‘fake reality’ and the difference between people’s lives on and offline.

“We couldn’t help but address social media and the subconscious competition it creates,” says Lizzy. “There’s a fake reality that everyone our age is falling for right now. Scroll down, see my page, look at my perfect life!”

Lie Like Me is the first single from Ward Thomas’ upcoming third album, Restless Minds, which is due for release on 5th October on WTW Music/Sony Music. The record is the follow-up to 2016’s Cartwheels, which was the first album by a UK country artist to top the chart. Lyrically it will cover issues including social media, the women’s movement and mental health.

Originally from Hampshire, Catherine and Lizzy grew up on a farm, where they learnt to play guitar, wrote songs and developed their trademark harmonies. They recorded their debut album, 2014’s From Where We Stand, in Nashville whilst still at school. From Where We Stand topped the UK Country Albums chart and won the UK Album of the Year at the British Country Music Awards, paving the way for the success of Cartwheels. Their most recent release was the 2017 five-track EP A Shorter Story.

Ward Thomas’ songs have been playlisted on BBC Radio 2 and they’ve performed at festivals including Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park, Buckle and Boots and Country to Country. Additionally, the band have frequently toured the UK, most recently in spring 2017 which included a show at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire. Later this year, they’ll be appearing at The Long Road Festival in Leicestershire.
